The “Energy Valley” of the U.S.

January 24th, 2008

Depleting fossil fuels and other energy issues have created the need for an advanced energy industry in the United States. The Hocking College Energy Institute, located in Nelsonville, Ohio, will provide extensive training for students studying alternative energy, fuel cells and vehicular hybrids. Students will receive the hands-on training needed in the advanced energy industry. Anticipated opening date is Fall 2009.

Jerry Hutton, dean of energy transportation technologies at Hocking College, shared with me his thoughts about how Ohio will lead the United States in the creation of an advanced energy industry. Jerry believes Ohio has the potential to become the "Energy Valley" of the United States.

Q: What assets does Ohio have that you believe will contribute to building a national leading advanced energy industry, or as Jerry envisions, to becoming the "Energy Valley" of the U.S.? Please share your thoughts.
