Ohio is committed to providing a skilled, educated workforce to help the state's business community grow and prosper. With a premier education system, the state is poised to produce next-generation graduates for emerging and leading industries. This commitment is combined with strong workforce training programs and innovative job-creation and worker-retention programs such as the Ohio Third Frontier Project and the EnterpriseOhio Network.
The state's business community can take advantage of several free programs and financial assistance opportunities designed to stimulate the availability of educated labor to serve industry-specific needs. In addition, the Strickland Administration has laid out a plan for talent development in Ohio, including rapid response services, worker credentialing, training, and business services. This comprehensive approach to workforce training illustrates Ohio’s commitment to businesses and the economy.
John Kratz, president of Information Control Corporation (ICC), shared with me that he believes Ohio has the resources in place to attract skilled technology workers, because of the state’s commitment to higher education, recruitment and strong business network. ICC is a privately owned ITI services company that provides project services, software development, business intelligence and technology infrastructure.

Ohio is the state where the opportunities for professional success and personal fulfillment are equally balanced. Here you can think big, work big and play big without being swallowed up by bigness itself. I believe that Ohio, "The State of Perfect Balance," truly offers business and industry many unique qualities that contribute to better balance and, ultimately, optimal business performance.
Many companies are trying harder to help their employees achieve better work:life balance, recognizing that better balance means happier, healthier and more productive employees. Recent studies show compelling evidence for why business leaders should consider the pursuit of better balance for themselves and their employees to be a key element of their business growth strategy.
I recently spoke with Ric Powell, managing partner of Accel Advisors in Cincinnati about his thoughts about how Ohio keeps to its promise as "The State of Perfect Balance."

A world leader in the field of polymers, Ohio's polymer industry is the state's most expansive - and important - economic sector. The state's universities and colleges are stepping up to provide students with essential job skills to continue to allow this vital industry to expand in a 21st century global marketplace.
Through a National Science Foundation grant of nearly $1 million awarded to the Ohio Supercomputer Center, The Ohio State University, the University of Akron and the Ohio Learning Network, new educational opportunities will drive continued innovation in the polymer industry.
PolymerOhio, a networking group committed to the global competitiveness and growth of Ohio's polymer industry, provides programs and services to advance the industry. In collaboration with the grant, PolymerOhio will provide forums for the introduction of cyberinfrastructure resources and workforce training to key leaders of Ohio’s 2,800 polymer firms.

The wind industry is thriving in Ohio. Ohio joined forces this week with other states committed to wind energy development at the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) WINDPOWER 2008 conference.
"Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland signed legislation creating a real market for renewable energy in Ohio and aggressively positioning Ohio manufacturers to compete in the growing wind energy market," said AWEA Manager of State Legislation Hans Detweiler.
Ohio's renewable portfolio legislation, passed in May 2008, requires all publicly owned utilities serving the state of Ohio to generate 12.5 percent of electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind, by 2025.
Ohio's wind volume is ideally positioned for energy delivery to major markets in eastern North America. Currently, three companies are developing projects in the state: EverPower Renewables, Invenergy and JW Great Lakes Wind.
