Ohio is at the center of the motor vehicle industry. Nearly 75 percent of North American light vehicle production is in Ohio or within 500 miles of the state’s borders. Ohio is second largest automotive supplier in the U.S. and is second in the nation for motor vehicle production, employing more than 76,600 people in the state.

Ohio’s network of auto suppliers represents all facets of motor vehicle production, including plastics, metals, instrument control and lighting. Beyond the leading motor vehicle manufacturers located in the state—General Motors, Honda, Ford, and Chrysler—Ohio boasts an impressive network of supportive companies that in conjunction produce 11 percent of the state’s private sector output.

Second only to Michigan in motor vehicle production, Ohio’s five high-volume light vehicle plants in 2009 produced almost 783 thousand vehicles representing 14 different models—including units of best-sellers such as Accord, AcuraTL, Cobalt, Econoline, Liberty and Cruze.

Distributed through nearly all of Ohio’s 88 counties, the motor vehicle industry is truly a statewide enterprise, with heavy concentrations along the Lake Erie coast and smaller concentrations in the metro areas of Columbus, Dayton and Lima.

Ohio’s motor vehicle success is not solely dependent on the strength of its business advantages. Today’s industry leaders have made Ohio a top choice to pursue their personal goals as well. Ohio offers employees and their families a competitive cost of living, a richly diverse culture and numerous entertainment and recreation opportunities. Find out more why Ohio is the State of Perfect Balance for achieving your personal and professional goals.

The auto industry continues to evolve each day to meet challenges brought by globalization and increasing competition. To be competitive, auto leaders must find a location that balances access to resources and markets while also providing low overhead costs for a higher chance of business success. Ohio offers the auto industry world-class automotive supply chain, profitable manufacturing markets and a supportive business environment.

According to Business Facilities Magazine’s recently released “Rankings Report 2011,” Ohio is No. 2 in the Midwest and among the 10 best states for strength in vehicle manufacturing. The rankings examined the top 10 states for their respective auto-related strengths, including manufacturing facilities and suppliers.

Among Ohio’s Midwest neighbors, Michigan ranked first in the Midwest (#6 in top 10), followed by Ohio (#7 in top 10) and Indiana (#10 in the top 10).

Ohio leverages its strengths in manufacturing to make the state a global leader that offers vehicle manufacturing and supply companies an ideal environment to maximize ROI with industry expertise, a business-friendly climate, a highly skilled workforce and a world-class automotive supply chain to get products to market.

Read today's press release to find out more about Ohio's motor vehicle manufacturing industry.

Company and family are both important to Merv Dunn. Since becoming president and CEO of Commercial Vehicle Group (CVG) in 2001, he has helped the company become a global leader in commercial vehicle cab system solutions.

And while CVG does business worldwide, Merv has found Ohio to be the ideal home, with many world-class companies located here, including several of his major customers. Ohio's excellent transportation infrastructure combines superhighways, railways, waterways and international airports to accelerate travel and shipping to anywhere in the world.

Still, Merv is acutely aware that many business people must sacrifice family time to be successful. That's something Merv absolutely refuses to do. In Ohio, he doesn't have to. His company's international headquarters are only minutes from home, allowing him to maximize family time as his children grow. With great schools and a variety of extracurricular activities from choir to equestrian sports, Merv and his wife Patricia are closely involved in all their children's activities. The Dunns have lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee and California, and they believe the quality of life in Ohio surpasses them all.

Merv has achieved a state of perfect balance between his career and his personal life in Ohio. Read more success stories of executives who have found both professional and personal success by leveraging Ohio's assets for business and family life.
